Items of interest:
• Consult our calendar (which has been out since early March) – everything is required from now on – If it is important enough to do and be part of, it is important to attend everything.
• Several of us have not completed registration forms for the Outback Bowl. I am tardy in completing this task, but will find the time to get everyone handled. By the way, it is not too late to add into the trip as one student is doing this week.
• For all NEW band parents! Ask your student for the weekly data sheets to verify all report times and dress code requirements. Also, you can read the data sheets on line at maumeeband.org at the message board. The best way to contact me is by email (it comes to my phone) at: director@maumeeband.org
Text Box: Wow! The summer has ended, and as I compose this we are three days into Band Camp. We have so much to accomplish and so many roads to travel but I must tell you that the band is doing fantastically. I hope they recognize that they have “it”. We have been discussing what “it “ is and how the season is ours to lose. We have not been so far into the show so early in camp for several years – years that have been so successful. The band to date has worked so hard and have learned the opener, both marching and playing The most exciting aspect are the issues that many bands work so hard to acquire. The winds have a lovely basic sound, the percussion section has the technique to play Scott’s great arrangements, and the guard has the experience and ability to learn routines easily.
I hope I am writing you each consecutive month continuing to discuss these virtues as the Text Box: • On a personal note, I will not be attending the first game at Waite. Mr. Kiger will be in charge as I have the honor of conducting the Swanton High School Alumni Band that night. Many of my students from those nineteen years, some now 46, are attending I am told. It will be great to greet them.
• Finally, I hope all parents consider doing their fair share in support of the band. It is one thing to be an officer and spend hours organizing everything with the help of all – it is a very different thing to organize and support everything with no help... it becomes demoralizing. Remember, the Band Parents are all of us, not “them”
Here is to a year not to miss!
