Scrip is another term for gift certificates from national retailers, purchased at face value from the Maumee Band Parent Organization. When you purchase scrip, you're purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. They are the same ones you buy at the store. Scrip is available for everyday expenses like groceries, restaurants, gasoline, books, clothing, hardware and other essentials. Scrip also makes great gifts.
Why should I buy Scrip?
The Maumee Band Parents Organization purchases these certificates at discounted prices. The difference between the face value and the discounted purchase price becomes profit for the Band Parents Organization. Profits may vary from 2% to 25% depending upon the retailer. Families can have this profit applied directly to a student account or the Band Parent's general fund to pay off music fees and special expenses, such as uniform rental, major trips, and/or the cost of participating in winter music ensembles.
As an example: If you purchased $50.00 worth of certificates for Max & Erma's Restaurant, the BPO would pay only $41 for the certificates. The $9.00 difference (18%) between the face value and the cost is our profit. The actual value of the certificates is still $50.00.
What's the Catch?
Script must be ordered and paid in advance.
When you order the Scrip, carefully read the information provided. The information explains any special provisions for a particular retailer. Generally, using scrip is the equivalent of using cash. However, retailers usually will not return large amounts of cash as change, so we suggest that you purchase the lowest denominations available.
Discount coupons may be used in conjunction with scrip.
There is an expiration date stamped on the Scrip. Usually, the Scrip is good for one year; however, participating retailers and discounts are subject to change without notice.
When and Where is Scrip Available?
Scrip may be purchased and picked up every Tuesday night at the Maumee Public Library (Children's Literature Section) between 6:00 - 7:00 pm. You can contact Diane Kime (276-1534) for more information.
